The recent invasion of Ukraine reminded me of the resolve of the British during World War II. Hitler unleashed the German Blitz in an effort to demoralize and conquer the United Kingdom.
Although British towns and cities were relentlessly bombed by air, Great Britain never surrendered.
My art is shaped by childhood trips to historic Fort George Island. My passion for history and the ocean began early. While my father fished, I played on the jetties and splashed on the beach with my siblings.
Although my parents were baffled by their artistic child, they never discouraged me from following my dream. They supported me at Hampton University. My mother flew to my graduation from the University of Hawaii.
Whether painting lighthouses, portraits or historic buildings, I recall the fond days when my love of the ocean and history were instilled.

Indeed Churchill said then: “We shall never surrender.”
Love your sketch.
Thank you for your post.

Some historians actually say Roosevelt knew of the attack. Took a few critical ships out, and let the attack happen as the only way to pull the US (and Congress) into the war…
That’s an interesting take. Other the hand, I thought Roosevelt was playing to public sentiment against entering World War 2. Most Americans were reluctant because of the our involvement in World War I. The war that was suppose to “end all wars.” Wishful thinking.
It’s always good to hear other’s perspective. Sometimes Americans are so insulated by our media that we forget there’s a different perspective. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and insights.

Yes. They didn’t. Fighting alone for a year and half more, until the Japanese attacked Pearl-Harbor.

It’s amazing the were able to do that so long. Yes the attack on Pearl Harbor was a sad wake up for the United States.

Just a theory. Very “minoritarian”. Read it once in a French History magazine. Never saw it confirmed.
Wishful thinking indeed.
